Topic: Flingo problem

Greetings all,

I’m successful in seeing the video I am “flinging” show up in the queue on the flingo.tv/demo, however nothing will playback.  Every video I try says video playback error.  I’ve tried using an swf, as well as an mp4.  These are the most common ways to deliver video that I am seeing, or at least how I do it, and not sure why it wouldn’t work.

URLs used to fling:
This is the swf that powers our latest video.
http://www.pokeware.com/luckyzappos/pla … /lucky.xml
This is the video we pull into the player for the video content.
http://c0026608.cdn1.cloudfiles.rackspa … .264_3.mp4

I'm not sure if it is a user error, I'm not ruling that out by any means smile, but any direction would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Re: Flingo problem

Hello!

This is usually an encode issue.

I pasted your video URL into the HTML embed generator at http://flingo.tv/fling/create_fling and flung it to one of our TVs.  It played just fine.  I also flung to the demo http://flingo.tv/demo and it played when run inside Google Chrome and in Firefox running on OS X.  I didn't try other browsers.

With regard to flinging a swf, the Vizio televisions implement stagecraft / Flash Lite rather than Flash 10.  Stagecraft in the current generation of TVs does not support AS3 and has some quirks that are likely to make SWFs built for the web to NOT work even when written as stock AS2.  The Web Videos application written on all Vizio VIA connected televisions assumes a URL to an H.264 video.  Handbrake H.264 encodes using default settings play on our TVs.

Re: Flingo problem

We do have some codec limitations for items to be flung to the TV.

Here are some encoding specs for optimal playback on the Vizio TV's.

Video Codec: H.264/AVC, Main or High Pro le to level 4.1
Audio Codec: AAC+ Level 2, AAC-HE
Containers: mp4, m4v

High De nition
Resolution Supports up to 1080p.
Bitrate Low: 1500 kb/s (if multiple bitrates are available, medium: 2000 kb/s, high: 2500 kb/s)
Please de-interlace content and maintain native framerate.

Standard De nition
Bitrate 1200 kb/s (if multiple encodes are available: medium 1600 kb/s, high:2000 kb/s)
Aspect Ratio Please maintain the native aspect ratio (4:3/16:9) Please crop let-
terboxing/pillarboxing and maintain native framerate.
Please de-interlace content.

Re: Flingo problem

I am also having the same problem. I can see the creepy bunny video but when I try to post the same bunny video from vimeo it doesn't work. http://vimeo.com/1084537  Please give an example of how to post a link correctly. thanks

Re: Flingo problem

The http://videmo/com/1084537 is the URL of a web page and not of the raw video.

Fling requires that you use the URL of the raw content.  Some web site owners might be squeamish about exposing a raw URL on the web, and so we have two solutions:

1. Embed flingo into your Adobe Flash video player SWF so that passing the raw URL to the fling SWF is done inside compiled ActionScript.  See http://flingo.org/developers.html#fling_button_swf. You can thus use whatever obfuscation you regularly use within the video player.  The only problem with this method is that it only works with Flash players.  If your site uses HTML 5 then see method 2.

2. Use the http://flingo.tv/fling/obfuscate call to generate an obfuscated URL that is understood by fling.   Put the obfuscated URL U in your web page in your call to http://flingo.tv/fling/a?url=U....  This allows you to put fling from HTML rather than Flash and thus will work with iPhones, iPads, and any other connected device that doesn't support Flash.

We also have a third method which involves writing a deobufscation SWF which executes inside the TV to perform deobfuscation, but that is a bit more involved than the two solutions given above.

Re: Flingo problem

Dave, how do I extract the raw content URL from a youtube video URL?

I.e., http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYNjKxs5PMQ

Re: Flingo problem

Can you explain obfuscated url and what does it mean to embed flingo in Adobe swf player and how?

Re: Flingo problem

Many websites obfuscate the URL of the mp4 to make it slightly harder to download the MP4.  The process of "deobfuscating" down to an MP4 URL is often accomplished inside Adobe Flash since Flash is compiled.  A Flash file or similarly an Adobe Flex project are compiled into a ShockWave File (.swf).

what does it mean to embed flingo in Adobe swf player and how?

Flingo has an associated SWF that can be loaded as a movie clip into a flash player.
http://flingo.tv/swf/flingButton.swf

Once loaded as a movie clip, you can call it to set the URL of the MP4 to be played.

An example for a player written using Adobe Flex is given at http://flingo.org/developers.html#fling_button_swf
